Module 6

Workshop 2 pre-work

Voice snapshot

Understand how your business is perceived now by its most important stakeholders.

The good, bad and ugly

Find inspiration in what the business has done well and where it needs improvement.

1. Stakeholder voice snapshot

Get ready! Our next leadership team workshop is coming up very soon, and we have a few things we need you to do to prepare before the big day. Don’t worry, we’ll try to keep pre-work and homework to a minimum, but it is really critical you make the time to get it done so the workshops are productive and successful.

At the start of this program, we surveyed staff, customers, and people in the wider community to understand how the business is currently perceived, from both a brand and a triple bottom line perspective.

Together with your business objectives, these results form an important starting point. They give you a baseline to measure against, helping track progress and improvement in the years ahead, and providing a foundation for reporting back to these groups on what has been achieved.

Ahead of Workshop 2, take some time to review the high-level snapshot. Reflect on what it reveals, where the business is seen to be strong, where there may be gaps, and what opportunities it highlights for the future.

Where to find your snapshot: Snapshots are reviews of data created bespoke by our team for yours. You can find yours on your dashboard, when you log in, under ‘Your Reports’.

2. The good, the bad, the ugly

Years ago, a business leader told us about the single best development program he’d ever run for his leadership team. It wasn’t a conference. It wasn’t a training course. It wasn’t even a workshop.

It was a half-day spent around a table with each leader telling one story about something the business had absolutely nailed that year, and one about something that had gone badly wrong. No presentations. No sugar-coating. Just open reflection on what drove those outcomes: the good, the bad and the ugly.

That simple exercise changed how the team thought and led. Patterns emerged. Priorities became clear. And the honesty of the conversation built new levels of trust and alignment across the group.

Before the workshop, write two short stories from your own perspective:

  1. A moment in the last 5 years where the business excelled.

  2. A moment in the last 5 years where the business failed or fell short.

For each, note down:

  • What happened

  • Why you would class this as a success or failure

  • The key factors that contributed to this outcome

This will help you arrive at the workshop already thinking about what drives success, and what gets in the way, in your business today.
