No disruptions!
Module 9
No disruptions!
One of the toughest challenges for execs is getting time to focus uninterrupted, but to succeed in these sessions, undisrupted time is everything.
Openness
This is your final point of deliberation when it comes to very important decisions. Be open, critical, debate, leave no stone unturned.
Space
A big flipboard or white board helps keep the ideas flowing and unrestrained. Space to think, deliberate, test and jot down every thought is important!

There’s an old line in strategy circles: ‘The first casualty of any plan is reality’.
Change never succeeds on a plan alone, it succeeds on people. And if people don’t believe in it, lead it, and champion it, it will fail no matter how good the strategy looks on paper. That’s why the leadership team’s role is critical: they will set the tone, the pace, and the level of belief that cascades through the organisation.
So before the new strategy is even finalised, we need to get clear on how we’ll prepare this leadership group, how we’ll get them aligned, confident, and able to drive the change from the front.
That’s what this exercise is about: planning for leadership readiness so the strategy won’t sit in a drawer, it will live and breathe through people.
In your pre-work, you reviewed the Change on a Page template provided below.
As an exec team, discuss and capture your responses so you have a completed draft plan — we’ll revisit and refine it once the strategy itself is finalised.
30 – 45 minutes
Think of this like a fitness check before a big climb. You may have the right gear and the right route, but if the core strength isn’t there, the effort won’t be sustainable.
TBL or 3P ambitions are no different, they take investment, time, leadership energy, and financial resilience to deliver real and lasting outcomes. Without that foundation, even the best intentions can stall.
This check-in is about being honest with yourselves: do you have the financial health needed to scale and invest in what we want to achieve, or are there areas we need to strengthen first?
Once you’ve completed the scorecard together, discuss the outcome, and what you can do to strengthen your position, if needed.
Review the financial scorecard (provided below).
As a team, assess current resilience across:
Liquidity
Margins
Efficiency
Risk profile
For each area, discuss:
Where are we strong?
Where are we exposed or stretched?
What could impact our ability to invest in TBL outcomes over the next 12–18 months?
Capture the group view — this will inform how we pace and shape TBL initiatives moving forward.
