1. Let's get started

Your business's path to sustainable success starts here

Welcome to the very first step of the Profit on Purpose (PoP) program — the kick-off.

In the video above, we walked you through what this program is all about: how it’s structured, what’s expected of you, and how we’ll build a strategy that’s not just profitable, but purposeful and practical.

You’ve heard how the next few months are split into three clear phases, how pre-work fits in, what’s involved for teams and execs, and how every piece of the program is designed to build clarity, alignment, and momentum.

This is your chance to reset, refocus, and reimagine how your business performs, from the inside out.

If you haven’t already, take a few minutes now to watch, it’s the most important starting point.

2. The 3 phases of PoP

How PoP works for you

Right now you might be wondering why you’re here. Your leaders want to create sustainable success for the future of your business (and for you), and they know traditional approaches to growth just don’t work anymore.

Over the next few months, you’ll move through three key PoP program phases — each one designed to create clarity, momentum and real, positive change for your business. The outcome? A bespoke strategy and plan that will see you become a 3P-driven (People, Place and Profit) business, with enduring success.

We’ll start by grounding in the truth of where you are and where you want to go, then shift into defining the right actions to take, and finish with a clear, measurable plan to move forward.

Each phase has a purpose. Each one moves you closer to a business that builds its performance now, and continues to remain successful in the future.

Each of these phases includes your executives and broader leadership team members, in different combinations. Why? Because growing a business that is truly sustainably successful takes input and buy-in from right across the team. Every one of you has a critical role to play in every phase.

Below, we break down what each phase delivers and what you need to bring to make it work.

The Profit
on Purpose program structure
Phase 1: Foundations (what we're working with)

Before we can scale with purpose, we need to know what’s already in play — and what’s in the way of your business actually achieving sustainable growth. What exactly will it take to get from point A, where you are now, to point B, where you want to be?

In this first phase, you map the reality of your business — from strategy and structure to culture, capability, and public perception.

You’ll surface what’s working, where there’s friction, and how well your current ways of doing things align with the future you want.

This stage covers:

  • Executive and leadership pre-work

  • Internal, customer, and community surveys

  • Your Foundations workshops

  • A current-state snapshot of People, Place, and Profit

Your goals in this phase:

  • Get honest about where you are

  • Capture perspectives across the business

  • Build a shared starting point

  • Lay the groundwork for sharper strategy and confident change

Slide right to find out about Phase 2: what we do next, now we have defined our starting point.

Phase 2: Levers (what we can do now->later)

This is where we stop reacting and start recalibrating, pulling the right levers for real impact. It’s about using insight to spark intelligent action, not just more information.

In this second phase, you’ll move from diagnosis to deliberate decisions. We explore what can be influenced now and what needs to be reshaped over time, then focus effort where it counts.

You’ll weigh up trade-offs, prioritise what matters most, and begin embedding habits and accountabilities that move the dial.

This stage covers:

  • Your Levers workshops

  • Tools to explore strategic trade-offs and investment pathways

  • A prioritisation framework to align effort with impact

  • Quick wins to unlock progress and build engagement now

Your goals in this phase:

  • Identify high-impact levers across People, Place, and Profit

  • Choose where to focus now, and where to build toward

  • Turn insight into real movement

  • Begin embedding leadership habits that stick

Slide right to see Phase 3: how we bring it all together into a roadmap you can run with.

Phase 3: Plan (how we do it, measure it, roll it out)

You’ve clarified where you are and identified what to act on, now it’s time to bring it all together in a way that drives real, lasting change. This is where direction becomes delivery.

In this final phase, you’ll create a bold, clear roadmap that aligns your strategy, operations, and leadership and gives you a rhythm to make it stick.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about momentum, accountability, and clarity on what to measure and how to lead from here.

This stage covers:

  • Your Planning workshops

  • Templates to codify strategy, operating rhythms, and accountability

  • A one-page impact map to align efforts across the business

  • Clear success measures across all three bottom lines

Your goals in this phase:

  • Align your team on the future state

  • Set measurable goals and milestones

  • Lock in rhythms that support consistent progress

  • Create visibility and shared ownership

That’s the journey, three fast-moving phases designed to help you lead clearly and effectively, act with confidence, and build a business that thrives on purpose.

3. What is TBL?

TBL our way

We all know the financial bottom line matters. It always has, and it always will. But what’s changing fast is how we grow and maintain that profitability.

New expectations from customers, employees, partners, and even investors are reshaping what a high-performing business looks like, and the impact you have on people and place can not only heavily influence your profit, but dictate whether your business will remain relevant, respected, and resilient in the years ahead.

In this short video, we’ll show you what triple bottom line means, how it works in the real world, why it’s now one of the clearest pathways to long-term profitability, and our unique take on it.

This is not about virtue signalling or activism. It’s about building a business that’s too valuable to ignore — and too well-positioned to fail.

Watch now to see how it all connects and why it matters to your business, your team, and your future.

TBL in action

Unilever

Unilever embedded sustainability into its core strategy, not as an add-on, but as a commercial driver.

They reduced plastic packaging, improved supply chain ethics, and launched low-cost hygiene and nutrition products for developing markets.

The result? Strong brand loyalty, access to new customers, and more than a decade of consistent growth.

Proof that caring about people and place leads to measurable profit.

Bank Australia

Bank Australia doesn’t invest in fossil fuels, gambling, or arms. Instead, it funds renewable energy, social housing, and conservation.

They’re not the biggest bank but their customer base is growing fast, driven by value alignment. They have some of the lowest customer churn rates in the industry, and their net promoter score (NPS) consistently outperforms the majors.

Their people and place focus directly fuels Profit in loyalty, referrals, and growth.

Patagonia

Patagonia has long been known for its environmental stance, but what often gets overlooked is how it translates to commercial success.

By investing in circular product design, repairing instead of replacing, and donating a percentage of profits to environmental causes, Patagonia built a fiercely loyal customer base, without compromising margin.

They’ve proven that doing right by people and place doesn’t shrink your market, it expands it.

4. Program logistics

Admin and schedule

This program has a set rollout of workshops and executive sessions, all of which are integral to a successful outcome for your company. For fully-facilitated programs, WWU will set your schedule and you will see it in your dashboard and receive reminders. For self-facilitated companies, your nominated team admin person will schedule all arrangements.

Your role

Each person in your company is allocated a specific role: ‘executive’, ‘leadership’ or ‘team admin’. This role dictates what you see in your dashboard, what materials you can access and to which scheduled sessions you will be invited. Each role is critical to success; the more your leaders are aligned, the more buy-in you will achieve across the company.

Program pre-work

As you have learned, the first phase of our PoP program is all about establishing where the business is now and where it needs to go. An important part of this is pre-work and surveys that are completed at least one week before your first workshop. This allows us to create your initial report card that sets your baseline for future measurement.

Workshop/session pre-work

Seven days before almost all of the workshops (2 per phase) and executive sessions (2–3 per phase), you will receive access, in your dashboard, to the pre-work for that workshop or session. This pre-work is to be completed individually, at the latest, three full working days before that workshop or session. It should only take you around 30–60 minutes.

What’s expected of you

Like anything, your business will only get out of PoP what it puts into it; what each of you puts into it. What we ask of you, whether self- or fully-facilitated, is that you come prepared, you’re all in, and you bring everything to the table. During sessions or workshops, don’t be afraid to ask questions, challenge, debate, throw in ideas. Your business will benefit.

Your bespoke strategy

What’s the point of all of this? In one sense, it’s as advertised: a bespoke multi-horizon strategy that helps you grow more profitable through improved people and place strategies, treating performance across the 3Ps as equal bottom lines. Through the process, you’ll also learn a lot about you, your colleagues and your business.
