Module 24
To the exec: Welcome to your final Executive session. You’ve done the work, you’ve got the strategy and you have the commitment from your team to take it forward, just a few last boxes to tick to ensure you are ready to roll it all out effectively.
No disruptions!
One of the toughest challenges for execs is getting time to focus uninterrupted, but to succeed in these sessions, undisrupted time is everything.
Openness
This is your final point of deliberation when it comes to very important decisions. Be open, critical, debate, leave no stone unturned.
Space
A big flipboard or white board helps keep the ideas flowing and unrestrained. Space to think, deliberate, test and jot down every thought is important!
40 minutes
Once a strategy goes live, governance is what keeps it alive.
The rhythm of measurement, reflection and adjustment is what drives accountability, builds trust, and keeps momentum.
This session is about putting that rhythm in place so every leader knows when and how we will step back, assess progress, and steer as needed. No one leads a strategy by accident, they lead it by showing up to the right conversations, consistently.
Today’s session is your last, and it’s a relatively quick and easy one compared to the legwork you and the team have been doing over the last few months, but it is just as important. For one last time, take the time and space to give it the focus it needs.
Using the governance calendar template here, make a copy, save it to your own drive and map out:
Daily, weekly and monthly checkpoints, meetings and reporting
Quarterly reviews: progress against strategy, risks, major adjustments that may be required
Annual review and planning: full strategy health check and recalibration as required with comprehensive planning for the next 12 months to flesh out the horizon plan
Additional key dates (board reviews, stakeholder updates etc)
Agree:
Ownership of each cycle (who runs which forums?)
Reporting expectations and preparation
Integration with existing business rhythms
Outcome: a clear, shared governance calendar for strategy execution ready to roll into planning and comms.
