Shape your winning pitch

Use this formula to start to clarify your business pitch:

We help [X] achieve [Y] because [Z].

Focus on who you help, the outcome you create, and how you make it happen.

Thinking pitchy: being concise

Often, when we pitch our business, we don’t get a lot of time to articulate what we bring to the table. Here are three tips for a concise pitch that hits all the right notes!

Step 1

Flip it
Lead with the outcome, not your background. Now you’ve filled the formula, invert it so you start with the part most relevant to them.

Step 2

Simplify it
If your pitch needs a glossary, it’s not ready. Swap industry terms for the words your client actually uses so you can really resonate.

Step 3

Cut it
If you stumble reading it, so will they. Your pitch should roll off the tongue in a single breath… if it doesn’t, trim it down to what hits best.

Thinking pitchy: getting powerful

Despite the word count, your pitch needs to hit your listener hard, right in the ‘that sounds like me’ spot, so they’ll hang around to hear more. Here’s how you do it:

Name the pain

Don’t just describe what you do, speak to the problem your client is living with. The more specific, the more they feel seen.

Make it real

‘Better results’ means nothing. ‘Half the admin, twice the revenue’ means everything. Anchor your outcome in something real.

Own your how

Your method is your differentiator. Don’t hide it behind vague language, the way you do it is part of what makes you worth choosing.

Write to one person

The best pitches feel personal. Picture your ideal client and speak directly to them, not to a room, not to a market segment. One person.

Put it all together

So, what does it really look like when you’ve taken each step? It starts here:

We help [X] achieve [Y] because [Z].

> ‘We help homeowners achieve the best sale price by knowing the local market.’ <

Then: ditch the jargon/cliché (best sale price), name the pain (time and money) and make it personal (‘your’ street).

‘We help homeowners sell 30% faster for 10% more, because we know exactly who’s buying in your street before we list.’
